 Summary of Clinical Experience

 

  •  I graduated from the Faculty of Medicine,AinShamsUniversityand worked at it. This University is one of the largest and well-established Universities inEgypt. Ain Shams University Hospitals receive referrals from all over the country, in addition to serving the center, east, and north communities inCairo. The bed capacity is more than 3500 beds, including 800 beds in the newly built, Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital, which is equipped with modern technological facilities comparing well with other modern hospitals in UK and USA. In addition to the standard services, Ain Shams University Hospitals have specialized units for cardiothoracic surgery (including open heart and coronary surgery), neurosurgery, plastic, vascular, paediatric surgeries and kidney transplantation team.

 

  •  During this period, I spent one year as a general practitioner in theMilitaryMedicalAcademy.

 

  •   I had the unique experience of the working in the Accident and Emergency Unit in the newAinShamsUniversitySpecializedHospital, where care of referred cases, usually complicated and with multiple problems was provided, with different specialties tackling various problems in one patient.

 

  •    I also took responsibilities in Ain Shams Teaching Hospital, which included teaching activities for both under and post graduate students and this includes weekly grand rounds in section 8 general surgery unit with teaching of surgical techniques to general surgery residents up to assistant professors and weekly discussions on theory and any new advances in general surgery and their application to the management of current cases beside the seminars and general surgery lectures. From September 1995, I am an examiner in the examination board of M.B, B.Ch degree, Diploma and the Master degree of General Surgery which including oral and clinical examination sessions and from October 2005, I am an examiner in the examination board of M.D degree which including also an oral and clinical examination sessions and member of the examination board of M.S and M.D of Radiotherapy department at Faculty of Medicine, Ain Shams University since November 2008 also I am the General surgery department representative in the examination board of  M.S degree of orthopedic surgery since the academic year 2008.

 

  •  I was the head of the team responsible for reconstruction and upgrading of section 8 General Surgery atDemerdashHospitalincluding the construction of a new fully equipped operating theater.

 

  •  I had the chance of being a Consultant Surgeon in Accident and Emergency Unit in the Red Crescent Hospital (300 beds), which is the biggest trauma center all over Egypt, receiving referred trauma cases from all over the country hospitals.

 

  •  I also attended theYemencivil war from April to July 1994 and managed many polytraumatized patients in mass casualties beside the elective cases.

 

  •  I had the chance of working as a consultant and head of department of general and laparoscopic surgery inMadinaNationalHospital, AlMadina AlMunawara, KSA from January 1996 to January 1999 with a 160 bed capacity and fully equipped modern hospital, this hospital is the biggest private hospital in AlMadina area.

 

  •  I had the responsibility as a supervisor of the MS degree examination in Ain Shams Faculty of Medicine in October 2000 with preparation of the written examination, oral examinations (including X-Ray, instruments, pathology, anatomy and surgery sessions) and clinical examinations (including long and short cases).

 

  • As I described before,AinShamsUniversitySpecializedHospitalis an enormous educational institute and self-sponsored unit built on 54,000 ground surface and 89,600 outside surface square meters and in44,000 cubic metersof concrete based on a French consultation of Sogelerg-Sedim in the district of Abbasseya and just a few kilometers away from the Faculty of Medicine. It was founded in 1978 and inaugurated in 1984. The high quality medical services are provided by the finest caliber medical faculty members and supported by a well trained nursing team, and an efficient administration team, coupled with the latest technology in medical instrumentation; this has made theSpecializedHospitalone of the major health institutes serving the Egyptian Community. The deputy manager for medical and therapeutic affairs since22/8/2003is a leading and executive job for designing the administrative and medical policies of the hospital and supervising its execution. I have the responsibility of supervising the project of central air condition of the hospital as will as the computer network which both working by end of 2003.

 

  • As management representative ofAinShamsUniversitySpecializedHospitaladministration in the quality control department, I am a leader of the team responsible for defining and controlling quality of the hospital services which is “a predictable degree of uniformity and dependability, at low cost and suited to the market.” It includes quality of design or redesign, quality of conformance and quality of performance. I have the responsibility of supervising the team of the quality control in registration for the ISO 9001-2000 that we succeeded in obtaining it in the middle of 2003.

 

  • I was the supervisor for establishing a new unites in ASUSH like the intermediate care of the neurologically critical patients (13 monitored beds) in the middle of 2003 and the chest intensive care (5 beds with ventilators and 10 monitored beds) in the beginning of 2004, also I participated in the extension of the renal dialysis unit by 4 new machines and the establishment of the epilepsy unit at the end of 2005.Also I am the head of the team that establish the disaster plane and evacuation plane of the hospital in the beginning of2006 incooperation with the accident and emergency department and also the quality control department, and participating in the training of different staff members and monitoring of its implementation. Also I participate in the establishment of the disaster plane ofAinShamsUniversity. I put and supervise the establishment of the new intensive care B with modern design and with capacity of 23 beds.

 

  • As management representative ofAinShamsUniversitySpecializedHospitaladministration in the quality control department, I took the responsibility in October 2004 as a coordinator between the hospital and the Ministry of Health in preparing the hospital as an example for the hospitals in the national project of hospital accreditation (PHR plus, Partners for health reform plus project).

 

  • Also, as deputy manager of the hospital I take the responsibility as the supervisor of the living related liver transplantation program in Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital and chief of the team starting at February 2005 with successful first transplant case at 3/4/2005.

 

  • After five years of being a full professor, I am now (starting October 2005) an external referee in the permanent committee of promotion of assistant professors of general surgery and the permanent committee of promotion of professors of general surgery.

 

  • By continuously improving the ASUSH medical services and continuously upgrading of these services and keeping up the ISO standers we succeeded in renovation of the ISO 9001-2000 certificate in May 2006 and ISO 9001-2008 certificate in July 2009.

 

  • With the cooperation with the information technology center ofAinShamsUniversitySpecializedHospitaland under my supervision we established the Electronic medical record (EMR) and the PACS system by 2007 with distribution of terminals in all inpatient departments and outpatient clinics. Also we started the project of archiving the old non active medical and financial files and I finished my job responsibilities in ASUSH at17/6/2008.

 

  • As a member of the education development committee in General Surgery department since September 2008 we are responsible for putting the curriculum of the General Surgery department and revising its strategic objectives and also revising the log book of both undergraduates and residents.

 

  • After application of my C.V on the internet site of the Egyptian universities promotion committees in its 10th cycle, I have been chosen as external referee in the promotion committee of assistant professors and professors of general surgery from November 2008 to November 2011.

 

  • As an expert in Hospital Information Management System (HIMS), I am always invited as a speaker and to give lectures in this subject inPoliceAcademy,AzharUniversity,MenoufiaUniversityas well as some big hospitals like Electricity hospital.

 

  • As a member in the ethical committee of scientific research in General surgery department since June 2009, we are concerned with revision of the protocols of M.D Thesis and research in General surgery department and other departments as regard the scientific content and the ethical steps of the research.

 

  • As an expert in Hospital Management and Hospital information management systems, I take the responsibility as a General Manager of Dar Alhekma hospital since March 2010 to May 2010 which is a modern very well equipped luxurious hospital of 12 floors, 150 beds and 30 intensive care beds together with 7 operating rooms for all specialties up to organ transplantation.

 

  • For my experience in hospital management I take the chance in 1/11/2010 of being the general manager of ElDemerdash University Hospital for Surgery which is the first founded university hospital in Ain Shams University (Opened in 1931), it is the surgical hospital of the university (15000 square meter surface area) including the different general and special surgical units with the latest technological facilities and it includes 800 beds with 150 beds from them specialized for accident and emergency in separate building. It includes 46 intensive care beds for general surgery, burn unit, accident and emergency together with neurosurgery. It also includes 36 operating theaters for general surgery departments and specialized unites like burn unit, spine surgery, colorectal, breast, hepatobilliary and other specialized units. It is the official place of the general surgery, anaesthesia, orthopedic, neurosurgery, plastic and reconstructive, ENT and urology departments.

 

  • Beside this I take the responsibility as accident and emergency team leader during the 25th January revolution starting in 25th January through the middle of February, during which we received so many multiple injured patients (545 arrived patient with 245 admitted patient, 24 deaths and 151 operated upon) of all types of injuries mainly from firearm and managed properly in the different departments (General surgery, plastic surgery, orthopedic surgery, ENT, vascular surgery, neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery) in a precise time with a very good outcome in such mass casuality situation, the mortality rate was 0.9%. This beside 197 cases arrived and managed in ophthalmology department, toxicology unit, cardiothoracic unit and Ain Shams University Specialized Hospital with total cases of 742 patients from 6467 recorded cases allover Egypt (11.5%).

 

  • I supervised the new design and construction of accident and emergency department including the formulation of new accident and emergency team and opening of the new hospital for accident and emergency ( 160 beds for general and special trauma surgery, 6 OR, 2 intensive care units, one intermediate care unit and head injury unit). Also supervised the opening of new ENT department, section, general surgery dept. 9 and 13, the new radiology department including multislice CT, new sono-mammography and new ultrasonography, spine surgery unit including new OR, Middle ORs and redesign of the central sterilization supply department with establishing the new plasma sterilizer in 2011.

 

  • Due to experience in mass casualty, the faculty of medicine chose me as a consultant in the mass casualty and disaster planning committee of the faculty which is concerned with how to prepare the faculty to deal with different casualties and also prepare an evacuation plane and communicating this plane to the university plane prepared before.

 

  • I am a member in the committee responsible for establishing a mini PACS system including the MRI, CT and digital radiology of Al-Demerdash hospital at the end of 2011.

 

  • Due to experience in hospital management and upgrading done in Demerdash hospital in 2011 through 2012, the committee whose chairmen was the president of the University chose me to be the General Manager of Ain Shams University Hospitals since 9/2/2012. Ain Shams university hospitals consists of four main major hospitals (Demerdash, Ain Shams, Gynecology and Obstetrics, and Pediatric Hospitals), three specialized centers (Oncology, Toxicology and Psychiatry centers) and 13 specialized unites with 3000 functioning beds on a 120,000 square meter area. Also responsible for the new Oboor Hospital and the new Academy for cardiac diseases, cardio surgery and vascular surgery. Supervising the establishment of the new pediatric hospital and the new accident and emergency hospital at Katameia area which supposed to include a newly advanced neurosurgery department for head injury and neurophysiological since unit.
